The El Cerrito High School Jazz Ensemble recently marked a milestone with a performance at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago — the first time the program has been featured on a national stage.

“We are only the second high school jazz group from California ever selected to perform at the Midwest Clinic,” the program notes on Facebook.

And they represented the school and local community “brilliantly.”

Dr. Aaron Lington, Alan Ferber, and Arnie Sainz performed alongside the band.

The ensemble also performed a concert with Evanston Townsend High School, an event set up by Allison Torf, director of bands at Pinole Valley High School, and hosted by ETHS music director Matthew Bufis.

The student musicians also toured Chicago during the memorable four-day trip. To view photos from their adventures, visit the El Cerrito High School Bands Facebook page.
