The City of San Pablo is planning a momentous birthday party and you’re invited. On Thurs., April 27, the City will celebrate its 75th anniversary at City Hall with an event to honor its incorporation/cityhood in 1948.

Community members are invited to join the City of San Pablo from 4-7 p.m. that day at City Hall to mark the occasion with “live music, food and family fun,” per organizers.

Joe Gomes, former Mayor of San Pablo, said in a video that the city was incorporated in 1948 when an election ballot back then offered people two choices: Incorporate as a city, or annex to Richmond. The vote was 1,438 “for” and 838 “against,” so San Pablo became an incorporated city at that time.

“San Pablo has a rich cultural and diverse history,” said San Pablo Mayor Abel Pineda, who said that the city has “a lot to recognize, celebrate and to look forward to as we envision our shared future.” The mayor added that San Pablo is “the little city that could and that I’m proud to call home.”

San Pablo City Hall is located at 1000 Gateway Ave. in San Pablo. Check out the video about the city’s 75th anniversary event.
