East Brother Light Station has hired new innkeepers—Danielle La Vigne and Rachel (Rae) Colvin—who are set to being training March 22 and take over operations April 1. Former Richmond Mayor Tom Butt, board president of the Light Station, shared the news in a recent E-Forum post.
The duo hails from Santa Barbara and will be the 34th keepers since 1874 and the 23rd since 1980. Previously, they resided on a 70 ft. sailing ship they had been restoring together. Outgoing innkeepers Dre and Charity Elmore will remain in their positions until the new innkeepers take over.
In bite-sized bios, the former mayor shared that La Vigne holds a 100-ton Master’s License with experience ranging from operating tour boats to managing bars and serving as a chef to construction and maintenance experience.
For her part, Colvin’s career experience includes working as a lifeguard, trail guide, homeless shelter volunteer, video production assistant, bartender, gardener, shop manager, security guard, logistical manager and construction contractor.
East Brother Light Station features a restored California Victorian Lighthouse Inn nestled on an island in the strait between San Francisco and San Pablo Bays. It plays host to getaway vacations and special events, while also offering an intimate dining option. Boat transportation delivers visitors to-and-from the island.
