Four of 13 tobacco shops that were randomly inspected during a three-week operation were apparently selling cannabis and psychedelic mushrooms illegally, according to the Richmond Police Department.
During the operation, Richmond police detectives and code enforcement officers seized over seven pounds of marijuana that were in leaf, powder and liquid forms and packaged for sale, police said. A “sizable quantity” of psychedelic mushrooms and psychedelic mushroom-laced chocolate bars and candy gummies were also seized.
Businesses face heavy fines, criminal charges and possible closure when caught selling illegal drugs, police said.
Further details about the case, including the identities of the businesses accused of selling illegal drugs, weren’t immediately available.
