A $2.8 million grant will support expansion of Contra Costa College’s (CCC) childcare services for students and the local community.
The grant comes from the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation and it serves families of all races, backgrounds and ethnicities.
As part of the grant, the college will receive $752,000 in start-up funding to update its Early Learning Center (ELC) classrooms, playground, and purchase necessary supplies.
The college will then receive $413,000 per year over the next five years to operate the ELC at an expanded capacity. Services include free pre-K education and childcare for low-income members who qualify for Head Start and Early Head Start, according to CCC.
“Other families might qualify for reduced or low-cost Early Learning Center services, as well,” the college stated, adding, “The program is not restricted to CCC students; all residents of surrounding communities are eligible.”
CCC President Dr. Kimberly Rogers expressed gratitude to the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation for the funding.
“These investments in early childhood education are critical in helping our students achieve their full potential and succeed in their academic and career pursuits,” Dr. Rogers said.
