East Brother Beer Company is now selling its beers in Japan, an achievement recognized in a ceremony Tuesday attended by officials with the Consulate-General of Japan in San Francisco and local leaders.

Deputy Consul General Kishimori delivered remarks at a ceremony hosted by the US Commercial Service to recognize East Brother’s start of export sales from Richmond to Japan.

The brewery announced on social media it would begin its journey to Japan back in March. In 2021, East Brother’s Oatmeal Stout and Red Lager won medals at the 2021 International Beer Cup held in Japan.

It’s the latest in East Brother’s expansion beyond California. We’re reported in the past on the brewery’s entrance into states including Texas and also Pennsylvania.

Guests at Tuesday’s ceremony included “representatives from Congressman Garamendi’s office, the City and Port of Richmond, and members of the Richmond-Shimada Friendship Commission, organizers of people-to-people exchanges between the US and Japan for 63 years and counting,” according to the Consulate-General of Japan in San Francisco.
