A fire that began in a garbage truck spread to a powerline, prompting a shelter-in-place request in a Richmond neighborhood.

The incident occurred in the 900 block of 31st Street, between McBryde and Esmond avenues, about 11:30 a.m., according to Richmond Fire Department Battalion Chief Anthony Woodard.

The fire downed the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. powerline, which fell to the ground live. PG&E shut off power while an RFD Hazmat team responded to contain oil leaking from the truck, Woodard said.

No injuries were reported, nor were other structures were impacted by the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, said Woodard.
