This Richmond United Lobos soared to victory on Sunday, claiming the Norcal Premier League State Cup’s platinum group with a 2-1 win over Sunnyvale Elite.
Steven El Chicharito and Rafa El Capi each chipped in a goal to propel this talented Richmond youth team to victory at the 2019 Norcal Cup at Mary Grogan Field in Modesto.
Hundreds of teams spanning from the under-9 through the under-19 age groups compete for regional titles. Richmond United Lobos came out on top after winning both of its games the previous day, 2-1 over Turlock Academica and 3-1 over the Montclair Clippers. In the previous weekend, the team split its games in second round action.
That this local youth soccer club is winning big is not a surprise. Manager Saul Velasquez recently set up a GoFundMe fundraising account after three of his players were provided the opportunity to develop their soccer skills at the exclusive Olympic Development Program. They were selected from a large pool of talented Northern California players.
“Richmond has great talent waiting to be developed,” Velasquez said.
