The West Contra Costa Unified School District’s (WCCUSD) labor standoff took a significant turn Sunday as Teamsters Local 856 announced it has reached a tentative agreement with the district, prompting the union to suspend its strike and return to work Monday.
Members of the union, which represents nearly 2,000 WCCUSD classified employees, including custodial, maintenance, grounds, transportation, and other operations staff, will review the offer in a series of informational meetings before taking a ratification vote in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the United Teachers of Richmond (UTR) remains on strike, with district saying it hopes to resume negotiations Tuesday, Dec. 9. The UTR counters that is ready to meet immediately.Â
According to the Teamsters, the proposed three-year contract includes 3 percent and 4 percent ongoing raises in 2025 and 2026, a wage reopener in 2027, continued medical benefits, and 100 percent employer-paid Teamster medical coverage for full-time employees starting January 2026. Members who waive district health coverage would receive monthly cash stipends.Â
