At House of Loving Hands’ free “Thanksgiving Dinner Event” Thursday, Nov. 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Richmond’s Veterans Memorial Hall, “the purpose is for everyone to feel loved,” according to the nonprofit’s Executive Director Deneshia Clemons. All are welcome.
“Thanksgiving is for people to feel loved, heard and seen on days where it’s set aside for families—and many people don’t have families,” said Clemons. In addition to that, she said that during the federal shutdown, many people were stressed, had food uncertainty and felt unseen. “We want people to know that they’re not alone. Bottom line, you’re not alone. We’re here for you.”
A decorated-for-the-occasion Veterans Memorial Hall will welcome guests to a Thanksgiving meal including turkey, ham, chicken, mac & cheese, yams, potato salad, rolls, a variety of desserts and water. Visitors can dine-in or take their meals out. Also on hand will be giveaways of hygiene packs, gloves, beanie caps and sleeping bags with mats for those who need them.
And key ingredients still needed to make House of Loving Hands’ Thanksgiving meal service a success? Community donations, so that the nonprofit peeps can coordinate all the fixings for Richmond family time. Lend whatever support you can here.
House of Loving Hands is a Richmond nonprofit that provides a safe haven for abused women and children, ranging from transitional housing, to skill development toward self-efficiency, counseling and much more.
