Temple Beth Hillel (TBH) in Richmond has officially welcomed Rabbi Julie Saxe-Taller as its new spiritual leader.
A Marin County native and longtime East Bay resident, Rabbi Saxe-Taller was ordained in 2004 by Hebrew Union College in New York and furthered her studies at the Pardes Institute in Jerusalem. She served for 13 years at Congregation Sherith Israel in San Francisco, where she led family programming, taught extensively, and collaborated on social justice initiatives.
From 2018 to 2023, she was the senior organizer for the California Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC-CA), supporting congregational social justice teams and leading advocacy efforts statewide.
Rabbi Saxe-Taller is known for creating inclusive sacred spaces that foster meaningful connections and for integrating Jewish wisdom into contemporary issues. She has also led workshops on antisemitism, addressing its complexities and the misuse of opposition to antisemitism to justify policies contrary to Jewish values.
Outside her rabbinic duties, she enjoys singing, playing pickleball, camping, reading, and spending time with her family.
Temple Beth Hillel, established in 1946, serves Jewish families in Richmond and the greater West Contra Costa County area. Known for its inclusive spirit and strong sense of community, TBH offers Shabbat and holiday services, religious school, adult education, and social programming.
