Regular collections of garbage, recycling and green waste was expected to resume today after an agreement was reached on Friday between Republic Services and Teamsters Local 439, according to Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia.

The strike began Tuesday, July 8, and left residents in cities throughout the Bay Area and beyond without any collections for several days, causing trash to pile up. Garbage bin collection resumed last week, but not recycling and compost. Today, regular service where all bins will be collected was set to resume, Gioia said.

“Republic Services and the Teamsters have announced that the strike is over and there has been an agreement in the Stockton labor dispute,” the supervisor reported Friday.

Meanwhile, Gioia said Contra Costa County is “moving forward with demanding rate relief for residents.”
