Tibetans and Tibet supporters worldwide will be celebrating His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday on July 6, 2025. To honor the Dalai Lama and his lifelong message of compassion, the Tibetan Association of Northern California (TANC) is launching a “Year of Compassion” initiative from July 6, 2025 to July 6, 2026 at the Tibetan Community Center in Richmond.

“Join us for a momentous occasion honoring the life and legacy of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama,” stated TANC on its celebration-related materials.

The yearlong global celebration is commencing with a “90th Birthday Celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama” on Sunday, July 6 from 9 a.m. onwards at the Tibetan Community Center. As part of the event, there will be traditional prayers for peace, a long life offering, guest speakers from the Tibetan and Buddhist communities, complimentary Tibetan lunch, cultural music and traditional dance performances, as well as a four-mile “Peace March” in honor of His Holiness and prayers for global peace.

Beyond His Holinesses’ actual birthday, TANC will feature monthly programs stemming from the four key priorities of the Dalai Lama – promoting universal values, fostering interfaith harmony, preserving Tibetan culture, and reviving ancient Indian knowledge – and that encourage kindness and community service.

Planned activities throughout the year include mindfulness workshops, interfaith dialogues on compassion, Tibetan Earth Day Clean-Up Drive, Community Feed-the-Unhoused Drive, Dharma talks & film screenings, youth-focused art and essay contests about “what compassion means to me,” and more.

The Tibetan Association of Northern California is located at 5200 Dalai Lama Ave. in Richmond. Learn more about TANC’s Year of Compassion here. Questions? Contact 510-230-8333 or [email protected]
