Time to don your best western gear for Just Imagine Kidz’ Wild West-style “Bourbon & BBQ” event, set for Saturday, June 28 from 2-4 p.m. at the outdoor space at 260 Broadway in Richmond. Attendees are encouraged to wear their best western get-ups for the event.

The BBQ showdown will support the fledgling Richmond nonprofit, Just Imagine Kidz, which empowers kids through after-school and summer programs focused on Black and Hispanic/Latinx history. The organization also provides classes for educators, supplying the tools to integrate these histories into their curriculum. Tamara Shiloh, well known as the owner of the Multicultural Bookstore, concurrently operates the nonprofit as executive director.

As part of the Bourbon & BBQ showdown, a mix of approximately eight professional and individual grill-slingers will be on hand serving up their charred specialties, which will be offered with traditional sides and dessert. Attendees will vote for which grill master prepared the best BBQ that day, and the winner will receive a trophy and meat donated by Richmond Wholesale Meat.

The reigning grill master isn’t the only one who will receive accolades at the event, the person who attends wearing the best western outfit will also be recognized.

The DJ that day will be Marvin Shepherd and a variety of raffle prizes will be offered, including a Wellness Basket from 7 Stars Holistic Healing Center, Makeup Basket, Books & Wine Basket, BBQ Sauce Basket, a bottle of bourbon with a cigar and more.

Purchase tickets for $60 pp here and find the event outside behind the gate at 260 Broadway in Richmond. Purchase price includes a BBQ serving, unlimited sides and two tickets for bourbon, beer, wine or soda, with extra tickets for additional food and drinks available for purchase.
