The East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) is appealing to the public to contribute input that will be used to develop its next District Plan.
So what exactly is the District Plan? It’s a strategic roadmap that will guide the Park District’s major decisions over the coming decades for parklands in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties, according to the EBRPD. Although it won’t detail specific projects, it will offer a framework to inform decisions about which projects to prioritize.
Community members can find the public survey through July 31, 2025. Print versions in English, Spanish and Chinese can be found at EBRPD Visitor Centers or by calling (510) 544-2325.
Park officials said that the new District Plan will further expand upon past planning efforts to integrate the changes in the climate, economy and demographics of the East Bay. Projected sea level rise over the next century, for example, will impact the EBRPD’s 40 miles of San Francisco Bay and 15 miles of Delta shoreline. Meanwhile, wildfire mitigation and prevention are expected to increase.
The District Plan will indicate the path toward responding to such changes through extensive research of existing conditions, analysis of future trends, and ideas/needs from the community.
“Public input is absolutely essential as we shape the future of our park system,” said EBRPD General Manager Sabrina Landreth. “The next District Plan will reflect the values, priorities, and aspirations of the communities we serve, and we want everyone to have a voice in that process.
As the District Plan gets developed, there will be three rounds of public engagement opportunities, beginning with this public survey. Other activities will be announced later this year and the process will continue through 2026. Check out a video from Landreth about the District Plan here.
