As Kennedy High School prepares for demolition this summer of its 100/200 building and the construction of a new, state-of-the-art facility as part of its Modernization Project, it’s inviting the Eagles community—faculty, alumni and others alike—to bid farewell to what was and usher in the arrival of what will be.

During an event Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m. at Kennedy, the Home of the Eagles will offer “a nostalgic journey through the 100/200 building’s history, providing an opportunity to reminisce, reconnect and celebrate the memories created within its walls,” according to organizers.

The event program will feature alumni and school/district administrators reflecting on the school’s significance as well as light refreshments on hand, giving everyone an opportunity to reconnect.

A standout photo opportunity touted as “staircase memories” will involve taking a photo on the iconic stairs of the building, a notable spot for generations of Kennedy High students.

The WCCUSD stated that the modernization of Kennedy High will transform the entire campus, including new construction and modernization of the remaining buildings. The school will be operational throughout construction, with the project being separated into three phases.

As the Standard previously reported, the WCCUSD Board approved the scope and budget for the Modernization Project at Kennedy High in November 2023. Included within are a new two-story classroom and office building along Cutting Boulevard. A cafeterium—or combination cafeteria and performance space—will replace the 500 Building. A remodel of the 600 Building and existing cafeteria will accommodate the Career Technical programs, while the remaining building will be updated.
