Animal Advocates of Contra Costa County is planning to hold a fundraising event in Richmond benefitting Stitch in Time Animal Rescue (STAR), a Kensington-based organization dedicated to providing medical intervention to injured or sick animals and saving them from neglect, abuse and unjustified euthanasia.

STAR needs a boost as the organization extends its efforts to rescue animals made homeless by the Greater Los Angeles fires.

“We don’t know if or when their owners or the rescues/institutions that were housing them will be able to take them back, so they have taken on a big burden and any donations to subsidize the care these animals need will be greatly appreciated,” states Animal Advocates of Contra Costa County.

The fundraiser, which will feature live performances, gourmet food and drinks and an exclusive auction featuring over 100 items and experiences, will be held at a private home in Richmond from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23. The address of the home will be revealed to attendees that RSVP at a later date.

STAR was founded in 2018 to provide rigorous evaluation, medical care, fostering, and adoption. Since then, hundreds of animals have been rehabilitated and provided second chances at life.

Len Welsh and the board members of STAR are described as passionate animal advocates who have spearheaded efforts to address overcrowded shelters, rescue at-risk medically compromised animals, and find them loving homes.

“This event highlights the urgent need for resources to support animals in Contra Costa County and beyond,” organizers said. “As Jelly’s Place in West County faces relocation challenges, the burden on Contra Costa Animal Services in Martinez grows. STAR is working tirelessly to address these gaps, advocating for sustainable solutions like increased spay and neuter services while rescuing animals at immediate risk.”

Tickets for the fundraiser are available here. Proceeds directly benefit STAR’s rescue operations and programs. Donations of auction items or financial contributions are deeply appreciated and can be made via STAR’s website.
