Officer Kyle Johnson was named the City of Hercules’ “Officer of the Year for 2024″ by a vote of his peers. He received the honor due to his exceptional attitude, teamwork and unwavering dedication to both the Hercules Police Department and local citizens, according to the city.

Johnson was presented with his Officer of the Year award by the Hercules City Council at its Jan. 14 meeting.

A native of Pinole and a standout baseball player at Pinole Valley High, Johnson excelled both academically and athletically and embarked on his career in policing at an early age. He signed up for the Hercules Police Department Explorer program at the age of 15 and earned multiple awards during the National Police Explorer competitions in Chandler, AZ. He went on to earn a B.A. in Criminology, Law and Society from the University of California, Irvine, and while there, worked part-time as a community service officer with the UCI Police Department.

On Oct. 26, 2020, Johnson joined the Hercules Police Department as a police officer, and during the last four years, served in specialized units including the Special Response Team (SRT) and the County Mutual Aid Mobile Field Force (MAMFF).  Adding to that experience was his time as a defensive tactics instructor.

“Thank you for protecting and serving our community, Officer Johnson,” city officials said. Check out Officer Johnson’s official proclamation here.
