Just three minutes from the time that firefighters were dispatched to fire at a home on Richmond Street in El Cerrito on Wednesday, fire crews were applying water to the flames.
The lightning-fast response may have prevented a bad situation from becoming worse, according to Richmond Firefighters Local 188, the union that represents city firefighters. Local 188 published video of the firefighter.
“On average a fire will double in size in every 45-60 seconds,” officials stated.
Richmond firefighters were called to assist in the El Cerrito home fire, which was reported around 10:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of Richmond Street, near Donal Avenue.
“E64 arrived first at scene in approximately 2 minutes after the initial incident dispatch, and had water on the main fire in 1 min. 8 sec.(1:08) after the engine air brake was set,” Local 188 stated. “It took just over 3 minutes from time of dispatch until water was being applied to the flames.”
While the home sustained significant heat and smoke damage, no other structures were impacted and, most importantly, no injuries were reported.
