If you want a good example of Richmond’s diversity, just ask Claudia Soto, a local resident and businessowner who aims to help community members with their spiritual needs.
“There are many cultures here in Richmond and people are constantly in need of many spiritual or religious items and products,” said Soto.
In December 2022, Soto launched Botanica La Bahia De San Simon at 2308 Macdonald Ave., just few doors down from Central Pharmacy.
The native of El Salvador said neighbors would have to travel out of the county to receive these products and services.
“So, I decided to open my business here so I could provide them with what they needed,” she said.
Included in the store are specialty candles, incenses, amulets, potions, lotions and Native American white sage. The specialty candles are best sellers for the store, Soto says. Some of her candles include the aromatic Miel De Amor or Love Honey.
Soto says her customers have strong belief systems that make these products not only important but effective for them.
“I cannot tell you how many times my customers come back and tell me thank you,” she said. “They are the first to let you know that the spiritual energy resolved the issues or problems they were experiencing.”
In a world filled with stress and anxieties, Soto says her main goal is to help people.
“People are seeking spiritual answers that work and I more than happy to help them achieve that here at my store,” she said.
The shop opens Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
