Richmond native and veteran teacher Stephen Ashford, called Mr. Steve by his students, has released a new single aiming to motivate children to dream big.
“Think Big” is the lead track from Ashford’s upcoming album “When I Grow Up.”
It’s Ashford’s second album geared toward empowering children. In 2019, he released Never Give Up, the Kenneth Walker III Story, a children’s book about the life of former Kennedy High graduate and star football player, and also a soundtrack filled with local hip hop talent.
“Think Big” similarly features contributions from notable artists, including Sedat from the legendary hip-hop group Brand Nubian and King Crooked, also known as Crooked I from Eminem’s Slaughterhouse. The track also showcases Richmond legend Erase E, a member of the iconic West Coast Bad Boys. McLaren, another proud Richmond native, produced the track, “ensuring that the song captures the essence of the local music scene while delivering a powerful message,” Ashford said.
The yet-released album, “When I Grow Up,” will also feature Richmond residents Dap, Daniel Kenya Lynn Harris.
Album also features Richmond residence, Dap, Daniel Kenya, Lynn Harris, Suga Kane, Gucci Smoke, Mistah Fab and Yukmouth among others.
