The ‘Richmond Chess Festival’ is coming our way Saturday, Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., when the West Coast Chess Alliance (WCCA) teams up with CoBiz to host the event in Richmond. The free event is a tip of the hat to the fifth National Chess Day.
The Chess Fest will be an unrated, stress-free day of chess, with activities including Quad G30 (30-minute games), casual play, bughouse and more, according to organizers. Players can visit On-site Registration from 10–11 a.m.
The rundown of activities will include: An “Introduction to Chess Class” from 9:30–10:30 a.m. that the WCCA said is for beginners or those looking to refresh their skills; a “Casual Speed Chess Tournament” from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. which is a fun, fast-paced tournament; “Bug House” from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., where four players in teams of two play on two separate chessboards against an opposing team member; and the “Quad Tournament” from 12:30 to 4 p.m., with pairings at 12:15 p.m. and rounds at 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The WCCA recommends pre-registration (free) as space is limited. CoBiz Richmond is located at 1503 Macdonald Ave. in Richmond. Questions? Contact T.C. Ball, a.k.a. “the Black Knight” at (510) 439-6311 or [email protected].
