Richmond’s own Dan “Gonzo” Machanik is returning to Riggers Loft Saturday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. for a free comedy show. The comedian comes to the wine collective fresh off his set at the famed Comedy Day at Golden Gate Park.
Gonzo won’t be alone. Tom Jonez will step in as MC/host and Jimmie Dave Menezes will be featured that night. The venue also features fine wine, cider and food alongside the comedy.
The local comedian, who regularly works with comedy show producers in Oakland, San Francisco and Los Angeles who sell tickets for shows, likes to keep it real in the Rich, often offering free shows for his “Gonzo Comedy Nation” fans.
“In the end, I’m more about packing the room,” said Gonzo, who added that it’s about making sure people who need the comedy get it, and then making sure the venue does well and that his openers and featured acts are remunerated.
Gonzo said, of course, he needs to make a living, but the comedy itself—the writing, the performing, the “shedding light and laughter through this dark world”—is really the main pay out.
Riggers Loft is located bayside at 1325 Canal Blvd. in Richmond. Next up for Dan “Gonzo” Machanik are his shows Nov. 7-9 at The Ahern Hotel & Event Center in Las Vegas. Learn more here.
