Below is an overview of significant service activity provided by Richmond Police Department patrol officers during their scheduled shifts. Note that activity shared in these segments are provided only as an overview, and do not reflect the entirety of service calls and reports taken throughout each shift. This report is provided by the RPD.
7/23 – POSSESSION OF A LOADED FIREARM
Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 400 block of S. 19th St. Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle leaving the immediate area at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to conduct an investigative vehicle stop but the vehicle failed to yield. The vehicle stopped after a brief pursuit and the two occupants were detained pending further investigation. A loaded firearm and live ammunition were located inside the vehicle and both suspects were arrested without incident. Back at the scene, various unoccupied vehicles and one residence were struck by gunfire, fortunately no one was injured. #7400
7/25 – THEFT
Officers responded to the area of Canal Blvd and W. Cutting Blvd for a report of a suspicious person inside of an underground utility compartment, cutting wires. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect inside the compartment with a knife. Further investigation revealed the suspect removed a section of wiring. The suspect was arrested without incident. #7480
7/25 – NEGLIGENT DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM
Officers responded to the 100 block of 6th St for a ShotSpotter activation. Officers located various expended casings at the scene. Fortunately, no victims were located and no property appeared to have been struck by gunfire. #7482
7/25 – EVADE/ASSAULT ON OFFICER
Officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop in the area of 22nd and Barrett Ave for various vehicle code violations. Officers contacted the driver and learned he was on Parole for first degree robbery. As officers re-approached the vehicle, the suspect put his vehicle in drive and sped off. The suspect drove in excess speeds directly at another officer, causing the officer to run across the roadway to avoid being struck. The suspect led officers on a pursuit to a nearby city and was subsequently taken into custody. #7485
7/27 – EVADING ARREST
Officers initiated a traffic enforcement stop in the area of 4th St and Chanslor Ave and the vehicle failed to yield. The suspect accelerated, lost control of the vehicle and collided with a parked car. The suspect then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officer quickly caught up to the suspect and took him into custody. #7527
7/28 – ILLEGAL SPEED CONTEST/DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE (DUI)
Officers were on routine patrol in the area of Clinton Ave and McLaughlin St, when they observed a vehicle street racing. Officer conducted an enforcement stop and the driver displayed objective signs of intoxication. The suspect was arrested for DUI and transported to RPD jail. Investigation revealed the suspect was driving under the influence and provided a breath sample of more than three times the legal limit. #7539
7/28 – RECOVERD STOLEN VEHICLE
Officers responded to a Flock notification for a stolen vehicle in the area. Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop, the driver was taken into custody and the vehicle recovered without incident. #7542
