Big band-style music will fill the air aboard the Red Oak Victory when the ship’s “Spring Swing” hits the decks Saturday, April 20 from 6-10 p.m. on the Richmond shoreline.
“Our Spring Swing will feature live 30s-40s big band music from the George Cole Orchestra,” said the ship’s crew on Facebook, encouraging swing dancers to attend in vintage clothing.
However, those who aren’t dancers or that type of clothing are “just as welcome,” said the crew, with tours of the WWII-era ship, music, food and cocktails on hand.
The Factory Bar will travel across Richmond to serve up beer, wine and their famous cocktails for adults, while hotdogs and snacks will also be available to purchase.
Tickets to the Spring Swing are $30 for general admission and $12 for kiddos age 12 and under. Beer, wine and cocktails, soft drinks and food are available for purchase. The crew cautions that tickets to the ship’s events often sell out in advance and may not be available at the door.
Proceeds from ticket sales help the historic Red Oak Victory stay afloat with restorations courtesy of its all-volunteer crew. The ship is operated by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation (EIN 94-6095083) and ticket purchases are tax-deductible.
