The Black Neighborhood (TBN) is helping people in need prepare for a happy Thanksgiving at its 8th annual “Turkey Giveaway.” The event is Sun., Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon at the City of Richmond’s Recreation Complex. Prospect Sierra Schools and the City of Richmond are partnering with TBN on the giveaway.

TBN will distribute one free turkey per registered recipient, as well as a bag of fixings such as canned goods and produce. One turkey is allotted per household and note that it is a drive-through event.

The Turkey Drive “is an opportunity for our community to come together and make a real impact,” according to TBN.

Community members can be a part of the Turkey Giveaway by signing up as a recipient, volunteering or donating to support the cause. TBN said that every dollar donated goes directly toward creating Thanksgiving meal packages for families in the local community.

Advance registrations are required. To sign up to be a recipient of the Turkey Giveaway, or to volunteer that day, click here. To donate to support the Turkey Giveaway, there are various choices: Send your donation to $ TheBlackNeighborhood on CashApp; to The Black Neighborhood on Zelle; or online by clicking here.

Per its website, The Black Neighborhood is dedicated to providing safe spaces for black communities and to being the change it wants to see in the world. It accomplishes this vision by creating & facilitating programs, initiatives and community events that promote wellness, connection and progress.

The Richmond Recreation Complex is located at 3230 Macdonald Ave. in Richmond.
