The Bay Area Rescue Mission (BARM) will host the “Heart of Rescue” event Sat., Sept. 16 from 2-4 p.m. at the Craneway Pavilion in Richmond. The event is free to attend, however attendees can opt to make a donation when registering.

A nonprofit devoted to changing the lives of the Bay Area’s homeless, BARM said in a statement that Heart of Rescue will unveil its vision to eliminate homelessness and transform our community. “Your presence is more than attendance; it’s a pledge to make a difference.”

The event’s keynote speaker will be Coach Ken Carter, the former Richmond High basketball coach portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson in the 2005 movie “Coach Carter” and who has returned to Richmond in recent years to run drills with the Nystrom Elementary basketball team. BARM said Coach Carter will share his insights and experiences with attendees at the event.

Food will be provided and live music will be performed by Phillip Cunningham Jr., based out of Los Angeles, per BARM.

BARM said that event attendees will hear from program alumni who have directly benefited from supporters’ contributions, while the organization also shares info about its services and goals.

The Craneway Pavilion is located at 1414 Harbour Way S. in Richmond, along the waterfront. To RSVP for the free event, click here. Questions? Contact Mimi at [email protected] or call 510-215-4869. Learn more about the work of BARM here.
