A person was injured after apparently being struck by a vehicle during an illegal sideshow in Richmond early Saturday, police said.

Police responded to the intersection of Rydin Road and Central Avenue during the early morning hours to disperse a sideshow consisting of about 150 vehicles, according to Richmond police spokesperson Sgt. Donald Patchin.

While attempting to disperse the vehicles, the RPD were fired upon by illegal high-tech fireworks launched by participants of the sideshow, Sgt. Patchin said.

After the crowd and vehicles dispersed at roughly 1:45 a.m., officers found the body of an unconscious male located at the curb in the area. The unidentified male was transported to a local trauma center.

Sgt. Patchin noted that the bodily injuries of the victim were consistent with that of someone being hit by a vehicle. The Traffic Unit is still investigating and no arrests have been made, the police sergeant said.

Sideshows have been an increasing public saftety concern in recent years, with neighbors and community leaders bothered by the noise, roadway disruption and most of all, the potential for injury or worse.
