The community is invited to Park Rx Day this weekend to spend time outdoors for morning yoga, food, raffles, activities, entertainment, local health resources, and to talk with Kaiser physicians for on-the-spot health assessments.
This free event will be on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Nicholl Park, 3230 Macdonald Ave. in Richmond.
Held by the City of Richmond and Contra Costa Health Services, Park Rx Day “seeks to improve community health and access to walkable, green spaces for all.”
Among those hosting a table at the event is the HOPS youth advocacy team, which will offer giveaways and information about Richmond’s Healthy Retail Ordinance. HOPS is a project led by high school students aimed at addressing health disparities in Richmond and unincorporated areas of Contra Costa. Since 2019, it has led efforts to pass ordinances which would set minimum nutrition standards for foods and drinks sold at checkouts and keep soda in the soda aisle.
