The 19th Annual Emerald Cup Awards, referred to as the “Academy Awards of Cannabis” by Rolling Stone Magazine, will be held on Saturday, May 13, at the Craneway Pavilion in Richmond.

Landing in the Bay Area for the first time ever this year, the Emerald Cup is a massive cannabis competition that will present awards to over 150 winners who produce the best of the best in cannabis products and experiences in California. The Emerald Cup includes a private event guest list representing the most influential farms, brands, and businesspeople in the state, according to organizers.

In March, over 100 expert Emerald Cup judges received judge’s kits that included over 700 top-shelf entries spanning over four dozen unique categories within the realms of flower, concentrates, edibles, cartridges, topicals, tinctures and alternative cannabinoids. Awards are also given for most innovative product and best dispensary in Northern, Central and Southern California. There is also a photo competition and the Willie Nelson Award, a lifetime achievement award for cannabis.

The Emerald Cup began pre-cannabis legalization as a small competition involving founder Tim Blake and his grower friends, but has since grown to become “the state’s premier cannabis event,” according to profile by San Diego Magazine.
