The Richmond Community Green Space Garden suffered damages due to apparent vandalism, according to Richmond Main Street Initiative Executive (RMSI) Director Andrea Portillo-Knowles.
In a statement, Portillo-Knowles said she received a call Thursday morning notifying her of damages to the art-laden garden on the corner of Macdonald Avenue and Harbour Way, where multiple community events and activities take place, from chess play to health fairs and cleanups.
On April 1, RMSI and NIAD Art Center teamed up for a “Heart & Soul of Richmond Art Project.” Video from the event can be viewed here. In its statement today, RMSI shared images on social media of damaged artwork from the recent vandalism.
“Behavior like this is UNACCEPTABLE and WILL NOT BE TOLERATED any longer in our Downtown District,” Portillo-Knowles said in the statement. “Our partners at The Reentry Success Center, NIAD, City Workers, and Neighborhood Ambassadors work extremely hard to make this a place of peace for our community!”
Portillo-Knowles urges anyone who sees something, to say something, and that RMSI will take further actions to ensure more eyes are on the downtown corridor 24/7.
