Jackknifed semi-truck leaks fuel into storm drain in Richmond

A semi-truck that had jackknifed into an embankment on an I-80 on-ramp in Richmond early Tuesday leaked about 30 gallons of diesel fuel into a storm drain prior to the arrival of fire crews, according to Richmond Firefighters Local 188, the union that represents city firefighters.

The incident occurred about 5 a.m. in the area of the Solano Avenue on-ramp to I-80.

Responding firefighters found diesel fuel leaking into a storm drain located direectly underneath the jackknifed truck, officials said. Crews quickly worked to divert the fuel away from the storm drain and contain the leak, according to Local 188.

The driver was not injured. Caltrans assumed control of the scene and will work remove the leaked fuel from the storm drain system, fire officials added.
