Arnon Oren, chef and owner of Anaviv’s Open Market in Richmond, is opening a new restaurant in the former Black Star Pirate BBQ space in Point San Pablo Harbor, according to Berkleyside.
The restaurant, which has yet to be named, is tentatively slated to open in February 2023. According to the Berkleyside article, the restaurant is expected to have a land/sea menu of wood-fired pizzas, seafood stew, brisket sandwich, bagna cauda with seasonal vegetables, fish and chips, salt cod and potatoes, Peruvian chicken, Shrimp Po Boy, as well as an array of salads and desserts. Ross Kaplan, who worked with Oren at Café Cacao, will head things up in the kitchen.
Chef Oren’s company, Anaviv Events, operated Anaviv’s Open Market in a Richmond parking lot during the pandemic, but shuttered it as his catering business rebounded. Through his catering company, he also operates Anaviv’s Table, an intimate, shared dining experience for 10-14 people. His pedigree includes having worked in the kitchens of Chez Panisse and Oliveto and serving as executive chef at Café Cacao.
Black Star Pirate BBQ’s lease at Point San Pablo Harbor came up at the end of November 2022 and it was not renewed. The owners of the restaurant have since opened the Baltic Kiss in Point Richmond.
Although Oren’s new restaurant isn’t open yet, it will be located at 1900 Stenmark Dr. in Richmond by Point San Pablo Harbor. Stay updated about harbor happenings here or here.
