Below is an overview of significant service activity provided by RPD patrol officers during their scheduled shifts. Officers responded to approx. 543 calls for service during this period. Please note that activities shared in these segments are provided only as an overview and do not reflect the entirety of service calls and reports taken throughout each shift.
12/2/22 – SIDESHOW
Officers responded to the 4500 block of Macdonald Ave after a group of approx. Fifty vehicles that appeared to be gathering in preparation for a sideshow. Officers were able to disperse the group. A short time later, officers received reports of approx.—300 vehicles caravanning into the city heading towards the mall. Officers responded and were again able to disperse the group.
12/3/22 – ASSIST TO OUTSIDE AGENCY
Officers responded to the Kaiser Hospital after a gunshot victim arrived. Officers were able to determine that the victim was shot while at a sideshow in Oakland. Officers secured the victim’s vehicle and stood by until Oakland PD responded to assume the investigation. #9705
12/3/22 – ASSAULT WITH DEADLY WEAPON
Officers responded to the area of Carlson Ave and Imperial Ave for reports of an assault with a pipe. Officers responded and located the victim, who stated he was at the gas station getting into his vehicle when a subject he knows approached and, without provocation, hit him in the head with a metal pipe. The suspect then fled. The victim sustained a large laceration and was treated at a local hospital. #9703
12/3/22 – SIDESHOW
Officers responded to a report of numerous vehicles driving recklessly and “spinning donuts” in the 1300 block of Canal Blvd. Officers responded and were able to disperse the group.
12/3/22 – BRANDISHING A FIREARM
Officers responded to reports of a male and female in a verbal argument in the 100 block of South 31st St. The victim went to check on the two subjects that were arguing, and the male suspect displayed a firearm to the victim. The victim retreated and called RPD. Officers surrounded the residence and attempted to contact the occupants. After a lengthy standoff, the male subject exited the residence. The suspect resisted officers’ attempts to detain him, and after a brief struggle, the suspect was detained. Officers recovered a firearm, and the suspect was booked at RPD jail. #9717
12/4/22 – ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON
Officers responded to the 1200 block of Macdonald Ave for reports of an attempted stabbing. The security guard for the shopping center reported that he asked a subject that was loitering to leave the property. The suspect became upset and produced a knife, and began to try to stab the victim. The victim was able to back away and call RPD. Officers checked the area and located the suspect, whom the victim positively identified. A knife was located where the suspect was located. The suspect was booked at the RPD jail. #9729
12/4/22 – SIDESHOW
Officers responded to the 4800 block of Central Ave for reports of a sideshow with 200 vehicles involved. Officers responded and were able to disperse the group. The group continued to relocate to various locations throughout the city, with officers following and dispersing the group. After approx. 1-hour officers were able to disperse the group outside the city limits.
12/4/22 – STALKING, CRIMINAL THREATS
Officers responded to the 1300 block of Virginia Ave for a report of stalking. The suspect had been threatening his ex-wife and vandalizing her residence. Later in the day, officers located the suspect driving. Officers conducted an enforcement stop on the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect refused to cooperate and produced a knife. The suspect brandished the knife at officers and told officers they were going to have to kill him.
After a lengthy standoff, officers were able to utilize several non-lethal tools to take the suspect into custody. The knife was recovered, and the suspect was booked into the RPD jail. #9735
