After the pandemic reached the U.S., the 190-unit hotel at 3150 Garrity Way was among dozens of hotels across the state that housed the homeless in an effort to provide safety, protection and resources. The County’s lease to use the hotel for this purpose lasted two years, through June last year. At one point, the County had considered applying for funding from the state’s Project Homekey program to purchase the hotel for permanent supportive housing. That proposal recieved pushback within the Hilltop community and on City Council and did not move forward.
