The following is an overview of significant service activity provided by RPD patrol officers during their scheduled shifts. Officers responded to approx. 1399 calls for service during this period. Please note that activity shared in these segments are provided only as an overview, and do not reflect the entirety of service calls and reports taken throughout each shift.

10/21/22-MAN WITH A GUN

Officers responded to the 2900 block of Cutting Blvd after receiving calls of a man with a gun. The caller reported seeing a subject with a handgun in their waistband walking in the area. The caller continued to follow the subject from a distance until RPD arrived on scene. Officers located the subject and determined it was a juvenile with a replica handgun in his waistband. The juvenile’s parents were contacted and they responded to the scene. The replica firearm was turned in for destruction. #8597

10/21/22-DUI COLLISION

Officers responded to the 4800 block of Potrero Ave for reports of a vehicle that collided into several parked vehicles. Officers responded and located the driver, who displayed signed of being intoxicated. The driver refused to cooperate with roadside sobriety tests. The driver was taken into custody and booked at the RPD jail. #8605

10/22/22- CARJACKING, ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER, RESIST ARREST

Officers responded to the 2900 block of Gomer Drive for reports of a carjacking in progress. The victim reported he was standing in his driveway when he saw the suspect approaching him. The suspect was screaming incoherently and had blood on his face and hands. The suspect pushed past the victim and entered the victim’s vehicle, attempting to drive off in it. The victim fought back, attempting to turn his vehicle off and remove the suspect from the vehicle. Neighbors came to the victim’s assistance and they all attempted to detain the suspect while he continued to fight them. Officers arrived on scene and the suspect continued to fight. A brief struggle ensued between officers and the suspect, during which the suspect struck and bit officers. The suspect was ultimately detained and booked at the RPD jail. #8615

10/22/22-ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM

Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop for vehicle code violations in the area of Cutting Blvd and Carlson Blvd. The driver appeared nervous and consented to a search of the vehicle. A loaded handgun was located during the search. The driver, who is a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing a firearm. The driver was arrested without incident and booked at the RPD jail. #8625

10/22/22-ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON

Officers responded to the 400 block of 23rd St for reports of two men fighting in the street, with one being stabbed. Officers responded and separated the two parties. The victim reported that he was walking on 23rd St when the suspect asked him for change. The victim told the suspect he didn’t have any money, which upset the suspect. The suspect continued to follow the victim for a block and a half, before grabbing a piece of wood and hitting the victim in the face with it. The victim fought back until officers arrived on scene. The victim sustained a laceration to their face. The suspect was booked into the RPD jail. #8628

10/22/22-DUI COLLISION

Officers responded to the 1800 block of Lincoln Ave for reports of a two-vehicle traffic collision. Officers contacted the drivers and one exhibited signs of being intoxicated. The driver performed the roadside sobriety tests poorly. A preliminary blood alcohol test indicated the driver had a blood alcohol content over three times the legal limit. The driver was arrested without incident. #8631

10/22/22- SIDESHOW

Officers responded for reports of a sideshow in the area of West Cutting and Canal Blvd. Officers responded and located approx. 100 vehicles associated with the sideshow. Officers were able to disperse the sideshow and move the participants along and outside of the city.

10/22/22-EVADING POLICE (ASSOCIATED WITH SIDESHOW)

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle that was driving recklessly as it left the sideshow. The vehicle initially stopped twice, but then drove off. Several other vehicles involved in the sideshow attempted to cut off and block officers that were attempting to stop the suspects vehicle. Officers were ultimately able to get the suspects vehicle stopped. The interfering vehicles fled the area. The suspect was arrested for reckless driving and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. #8634

10/23/22-ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON (FIREARM)

Officers responded to the area of Richmond Parkway and Hensley Ave for reports of a subject who had been shot. Officers responded and located the victim who was suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was unable to provide any description of the suspect who shot them or where they were when they were shot. Officers canvased the area but were unable to determine where the victim had been shot. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. #8641

10/23/22-ARMED ROBBERY

Officers responded to the 1700 block of Chanslor Ave for reports of an armed robbery. The two victims reported they were in front of their residence when three approximately 16-year-old suspects approached them. One of the suspects produced a firearm and struck one of the victims in the head with it. The other two suspects also brandished firearms. The suspects stole the victim’s wallets and purse and then calmly walked away. Officers responded and checked the area, but were unable to locate the suspects. #8648

10/23/22-ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM, COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

Officers on routine patrol in the 400 block of 23rd St saw a suspicious subject walking in the area. The officer recognized that the suspect’s description matched that of a suspect who broke into a local business the week prior. The description matched to include the suspect was wearing the same clothes they wore when they committed the burglary. Officers stopped the suspect and determined he had a loaded handgun on him. Officers confirmed the suspect was the same suspect seen on surveillance video committing the burglary and they were booked for the burglary and illegal possession of a loaded firearm. #8616

10/24/22-ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM

Officers responded to the 4600 block of Potrero Ave for reports of a several subjects loitering who were armed with firearms. Officers responded and located a group of subjects that matched the description provided by the caller. Officers contacted the group and determined one was in possession of a loaded “ghost gun”. Another suspect was determined to have an active warrant for their arrest. The two suspects were arrested without incident and the firearm was seized as evidence. #8675

10/24/22-NEGLIGENT DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM

Approx. one hour after clearing the above call, officers received a ShotSpotter activation in the 800 block of South 47th St. Officers responded and located multiple shell casings in the roadway of the 4700 block of Potrero Ave. Officers were unable to locate any victims or suspects in the area. The preliminary investigation showed that a vehicle drove into the area and possibly fired at a group loitering in the 4600 block of Potrero Ave. The shell casings were collected for processing. #8681

10/24/22-ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM

Officers conducted a vehicle stop in the area of Bell Court and South 45th St for vehicle code violations. The driver was determined to not have a valid license. The driver consented to a search of their vehicle. During the search a loaded handgun was located. The driver was taken into custody without incident and the firearm was seized as evidence. #8693

10/25/22-POSSESSION OF A STOLEN VEHICLE, WARRANT ARREST

Officers conducted a vehicle stop in the area of South 33rd St and Spring St. The driver was determined to have an active warrant for their arrest. Officers determined that the license plate on the vehicle did not belong on it. The vehicles owner was contacted and officers determined the vehicle had just been stolen. The driver was booked into RPD jail for vehicle theft and the warrant. #8694

10/25/22-ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON INVESTIGATION CONTINUED

RPD detectives investigating an assault with a deadly weapon report from last week, were able to identify the suspect and where he lived in the 400 block of 3rd Street. Officers were able to locate the suspect and take him into custody as he was leaving his residence. A search warrant was executed on the suspects residence and firearms and other evidence was seized. #8418

10/25/22-DUI COLLISION

Officers responded to the 2300 block of Cutting Blvd for reports of a two-vehicle collision. Officers contacted the drivers and determined one exhibited signs of being intoxicated. The driver was unable to complete roadside sobriety tests. A preliminary alcohol test showed the suspect to have a BAC over three times the legal limit. After receiving medical treatment, the suspect booked into the RPD jail. #8714

10/26/22-ASSAULT WITH DEADLY WEAPON

Officers responded to the 300 block of 22nd Street for reports of a stabbing. Officers responded and located one subject with stab wounds. The other party was located at the scene. They claimed they had caught the person who was stabbed attempting to break into their vehicle. When they attempted to stop them, the person lunged at them, prompting them to stab the person in self-defense. RPD detectives responded and assumed the investigation. #8721

10/26/22-ASSAULT WITH DEADLY WEAPON

Officers responded to the 1300 block of Marina Way for reports of a subject attempting to hit someone with a bat. Officers responded and located the victim. The victim said he was sitting in his car with a friend when the suspect approached their vehicle recording them with his cellphone. The victim exited his vehicle and confronted the suspect about recording them. An argument ensued and the suspect went to his vehicle and retrieved a baseball bat. The victim got back into their vehicle in an effort to get away from the suspect. The suspect followed and attempted to break out the victim’s window with the bat. The suspect was unable to break the window and he returned to his vehicle. Officers located the suspect still seated inside his vehicle and he was taken into custody without incident. #8724

10/26/22-ASSAULT WITH DEADLY WEAPON

Officers responded to the 1100 block of Macdonald Ave for reports of a stabbing. Officers located the victim, who was suffering from at least one stab wound. The victim provided the name of the suspect who stabbed him. Officers checked the area and located the suspect a few blocks away. The suspect was uncooperative and refused to follow officers directions. After a brief struggle, the suspect was taken into custody. A bloody knife was located in the suspects pocket. The suspect was booked into the RPD jail and the victim was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance. #8746

10/27/22-ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON

Officers responded to the 800 block of 7th Street for a ShotSpotter activation. While responded to the ShotSpotter, officers received word that a shooting victim had arrived at a local hospital. Officers confirmed the victim had been shot in the 800 block of 7th Street. The victim was transported to a local trauma center for medical treatment. Shell casings were recovered at the crime scene and were recovered as evidence. #8767
