When they’re not churning out classics typical to Guadalajara from their restaurant in Richmond’s Hilltop neighborhood, owner Jose Lopez and his family might be found shopping at Los Montanas Super Market in San Pablo. Not for themselves, of course, for the restaurant.
“We work hard seven days a week here,” Lopez said.
That hard work and passion are secret ingredients for El Sabor De Guadalajara Restaurant, located at 2946 Hilltop Mall Road, right across the street from Hilltop Mall. Add in the homemade dishes that incorporate fresh ingredients, spices and seasonings, and what follows are positive reviews via word of mouth in the community, as well as on Yelp and on Google.
“We take the greatest pride in serving the most delicious and traditional Mexican food here,” Lopez said.
The restaurant serves classic dishes you’d come across in Guadalajara such as Carne en su jugo, Torta Ahogada, Torta de Pierna, Birria, Pozole, Menudo and Chilaquiles. Chilies of various varieties, pepper, garlic, onion, bay leaf, paprika are among the spices and seasonings deployed.
Lopez said his family was inspired to open this business due to their passion for and experience with food. They also said they love being their own bosses, learning and meeting interesting people and knowing every day will be different.
El Sabor De Guadalajara Restaurant opens Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
