Want to play an active role in making Richmond and other local cities safer? Head on over to your local police department’s National Night Out celebration Tues., Aug. 2, which will be happening in cities throughout the area.

Celebrated nationwide, National Night Out brings community members together with first responders to enjoy food, entertainment and fun activities, while also strengthening police-community connections and creating safer cities in the process.

Here’s the 411 on local police department activities happening Tuesday for National Night Out.

Richmond: National Night Out in Richmond will see the City, Richmond Police Department, Richmond Fire Department, and a host of Neighborhood Councils “celebrate public safety partnerships with community block parties, music, information, food trucks and more,” per organizers. The main event will be held Tues., Aug. 2 from 5-8 p.m. Festivities will kick off at 212 South 17th St. (Parking will be at the Southside Church of Christ, 15th St. and Florida Ave.), while the conclusion will be at Southside Park, South 6th St. and Virginia Ave. Also keep an eye out for neighborhood parties throughout Rich City. San Pablo: National Night Out activities in San Pablo will include a family friendly “night full of fun, food and entertainment” Tues. Aug. 2 from 5-8 p.m. at the San Pablo Community Center, 2450 Road 20 in San Pablo.

Hercules: The City of Hercules is teaming up with the Bayfront Chamber of Commerce for National Night Out Tues., Aug. 2 starting at 6 p.m. at Refugio Valley Park, 1301 Refugio Valley Rd. in Hercules. Organizers say residents “can mingle with law enforcement, play games, eat food, learn about opportunities in the city and stay for a theme-based movie.”

Pinole: Pinole’s National Night Out event will take place Tues., Aug. 2 from 3-5 p.m. at the East Bluff Apartments (Eden Housing), 1813 Marlesta Ct. in Pinole, per Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia’s office.
