A new, family-owned business serving up crispy fried chicken, fresh hand-crafted sandwiches and “cheeseburgers that have never entered a freezer,” among other delights, opened a few weeks ago at 1000 Nevin Ave., across from Kaiser Richmond and the downtown Post Office.

Marty’s Grill is owned by Marty Ali and his brother, Ali, who were both born and raised in the local area, having attended Coronado Elementary, DeJean Middle and Leadership and Kennedy high schools. The new restaurant offers both dine-in or drive-through service.

“We are an independent, family-owned restaurant that decided to add some spice to downtown Richmond,” Marty said.

So far, the customer favorite at Marty’s Grill is its signature crispy chicken wrap. Of course, Marty says he’s a fan of his brother’s Crispy Chicken Sandwich “because the coleslaw is made fresh daily and it packs a mouthful of flavor.”

But customers aren’t forgetting to try out Marty’s burgers. Another fan favorite is the mushroom-Swiss burger.

“We are serving my famous cheeseburgers, specialty Philly subs, and a wide selection of many more,” Marty said.

As a burger specialist, Marty said he was surprised about his customers’ increased liking of the Sweet King Sandwich, “especially when ordered with avocado, it is really something else.”

Also fan favorites at Marty’s Grill are its prices, with the classic cheeseburger going for $6.99, onion rings $4.99, and the Philly sub $10.99.

“My brother Ali and I made a significant effort to provide quality fresh food at a great price,” Marty said. “With such a variety, we made it possible for customers to make purchases that meet their everyday budget.”

Marty says he and his brother have always loved and taken pride in their community.

“We found great comfort here and wanted to remain in the area, so down in the heart of Richmond, we found it suitable to open a business where we can practice our craft and serve the community we know and cherish,” Marty said.

Marty’s Grill is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
