An upcoming event at Richmond’s Nicholl Park is free to attend and the benefits are immeasurable. As community members reemerge from pandemic hibernation, the City of Richmond is hosting an apropos event: the “2022 Park Rx Day” Sat., April 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the aforementioned park located at Cutting Blvd and South 41st St.

According to City organizers, the special day is “celebrated across the United States and internationally to promote the growing movement of healthcare providers referring patients to parks to improve their health and wellbeing.”

Some of the countless reasons to connect with nature on ParkRx Day, per City organizers, include: improvements to your physical, mental and spiritual health; outdoor exercise can be more fun, can boost your mood immunity, while also fighting obesity; outdoor activities foster active play among kids, which is associated with physical, cognitive and social benefits; adolescents derive mental and social health benefits from the outdoors during an often challenging time of life; and adults also receive many mental and physical health benefits from getting outside, including an improved overall quality of life.

Questions about ParkRx Day can be directed to 510-620-6793 or [email protected].
