One person was killed and two people were injured, including a woman who is six months pregnant, in two separate shootings Wednesday in Richmond’s Iron Triangle neighborhood, police said.
The first of the two shooting incidents, which police say were not related, occurred in the 200 block of 3rd Street at about 5:40 p.m. A man and pregnant woman were sitting in a car when a dark-colored SUV drove by and at least one person fired multiple rounds in the vehicle, police said. Both occupants were struck by gunfire and seriously hurt. The woman suffered injuries to her extremities and there appeared to be no injuries to the fetus, according to police.
At 7:25 p.m. that night, officers responded to a separate shooting in the 500 block of S. 12 Street. The shooting claimed the life of 60-year-old Melvin Stewart, police said. The incident marked the sixth homicide in Richmond in 2022.
No further details on the investigations were immediately available. Police said they are following up on leads in both cases.
