Urban Tilth is seeking residents of the Richmond Greenway to join them in a series of community sessions to help design a new “Encouraging the Imagination” mural at Unity Park, Ohio Ave. & S. 16th St. in Richmond.
The Richmond organization—which is dedicated to cultivating a more sustainable, healthy and just food system—is teaming up with Richmond Arts & Culture and the City of Richmond Parks and Landscaping Division for the mural project, which aims to be installed for Earth Day 2022.
The first community session will kick off on Sat., March 5 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Unity Park Shade Structure at 16th St. and the Richmond Greenway. During the session, community members can meet the artist, help select the mural’s theme and see where it will be installed.
Additional community sessions are slated for the same time and location on: Sat., March 19 (choose the mural imagery); Sat., March 26 (weigh-in on three potential mural designs); and Sat. April 2 (give feedback on the final design before the painting starts).
Organizers from Urban Tilth said that murals “have always been powerful tools to educate and inspire community members in our society,” adding that the Encouraging the Imagination Mural Project will inspire local residents, especially our kids, “to expand our imaginations with the help of the power of nature and community.”
