Local lovebirds looking to get married on Valentine’s Day might get their wish as the Contra Costa County Clerk’s Office will be officiating additional wedding ceremonies Mon., Feb. 14.

That day, 26 ceremonies—which is double the number of appointments usually available—will be performed at the County Clerk’s office, located at 555 Escobar St. in Martinez from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Acting Assistant Clerk Recorder Laura Wilson said that Valentine’s Day is a very popular day for weddings at the office and, wanting to accommodate those wishing to have their ceremony that day, they ā€œopened up additional appointments for wedding ceremonies.ā€ Wilson added that ā€œspots are filling up quickly.ā€

Couples wanting to schedule a Valentine’s Day appointment should contact the County Clerk’s office at 925-335-7900; walk-in appointments will not be accepted. The fee for civil marriage ceremonies is $60. Up to five guests may join the couple for the ceremony and COVID-19 protocols will be in place. The Destination Wedding program—where ceremonies are held in a picturesque or historic location—currently is not available due to the pandemic.Ā

Prior to the ceremony, couples should get a marriage license at the main office in Martinez, according to the County Clerk’s office. A public marriage license is $86 or a confidential marriage license is $90.
