Local lovebirds looking to get married on Valentineās Day might get their wish as the Contra Costa County Clerkās Office will be officiating additional wedding ceremonies Mon., Feb. 14.
That day, 26 ceremoniesāwhich is double the number of appointments usually availableāwill be performed at the County Clerkās office, located at 555 Escobar St. in Martinez from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Acting Assistant Clerk Recorder Laura Wilson said that Valentineās Day is a very popular day for weddings at the office and, wanting to accommodate those wishing to have their ceremony that day, they āopened up additional appointments for wedding ceremonies.ā Wilson added that āspots are filling up quickly.ā
Couples wanting to schedule a Valentineās Day appointment should contact the County Clerkās office at 925-335-7900; walk-in appointments will not be accepted. The fee for civil marriage ceremonies is $60. Up to five guests may join the couple for the ceremony and COVID-19 protocols will be in place. The Destination Wedding programāwhere ceremonies are held in a picturesque or historic locationācurrently is not available due to the pandemic.Ā
Prior to the ceremony, couples should get a marriage license at the main office in Martinez, according to the County Clerkās office. A public marriage license is $86 or a confidential marriage license is $90.
