The construction company behind Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (Con Fire) Station 70, a 15,000-square-foot two-story fire station in San Pablo, received recognition in Firehouse Magazine’s 2021 Station Design Awards. The eighth annual awards showcase noteworthy fire and emergency service facilities.
The fire station was one of two projects that Alten Construction, a Richmond-based commercial construction company, recently received recognition for by the magazine.
Alten Construction said Con Fire Station 70, a 15,000-square-foot two-story fire station located at 1800 23rd St. in San Pablo, was named notable in the Career 2 category. In alignment with Contra Costa County’s public building standards, the $9.778 million project was designed to meet LEED Silver equivalency, per the company. It also serves as a memorial to two fallen Con Fire firefighters who perished in 2007 while attempting to rescue elderly residents trapped in a burning home on Michelle Drive.
A second company project—the $35 million, 43,500-square-foot San Rafael Public Safety Center—received gold in the magazine’s Shared Facilities category, per the construction company.
Bob Alten, president and chief executive officer of Alten Construction, expressed pleasure at having two projects named in Firehouse’s 2021 Station Design Awards, underscoring that the company’s reputation for quality and high standards has remained its top priority and that they are “thrilled for this prestigious and nationwide recognition.”
