A 59-year-old man was fatally shot in Richmond on Saturday, and the suspect in his slaying was arrested two days later, police said.
Police responded to the 4100 block of Florida Avenue just before 4 a.m. on Saturday and found Eddie Burleson Jr., 59, from Richmond, who was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound, according to Richmond police Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said.
Detectives began an investigation and learned the shooting was preceded by a verbal argument with the suspect, who shot the victim one time, Pomeroy said.
Homicide detectives identified the suspect and obtained a warrant for their arrest. The detectives learned of the suspect’s location on Monday. The arrest was made without incident after the suspect was seen leaving a residence in the 1900 block of Virginia Avenue, Pomeroy said.
The suspect is in custody pending charges by the District Attorney’s office.
The incident marked Richmond’s 17th homicide in 2021.
