Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 12, The San Pablo Public Library will begin offering free boxes of prepared food each Tuesday starting at noon until supplies run out. Each box will include a five day supply of breakfast, lunch, snacks and supper, said the library.

The service, offered in partnership with the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD), is open to anyone and will run through 2022 until further notice.

To take part in the program, community members should line up outside of the library alongside the building, said a library representative, who said people typically line up early for their meal programs.

Questions? Call the San Pablo Public Library during business hours at 510-374-3998. Note that the same five-day-meal-supply program is being offered by the El Sobrante Library from 12-1 p.m. on Thursdays.

Also at the San Pablo Public Library, kids and teens 18 and under can receive free after school meals Monday through Friday from 3-5 p.m. in a designated area of the library. According to a librarian, a sample meal may include a sandwich or wrap, vegetable and milk.

To receive a free after school meal, youth should give the person serving the meals their name and indicate that they want one during the aforementioned time period. As with the prepared food boxes, the after school meals are being made possible via a partnership with the WCCUSD.
