After canceling the in-person portion of the annual We Run Richmond 5k last year due to COVID-19, 5k organizer Moving Forward is preparing to host this year’s run both virtually and in person.

On Aug. 14 at 10 a.m., runners can begin either at the in-person location (still to be determined) or can choose to run on their own and follow along via Instagram Live.

Each 5k participant will receive an official race day t-shirt and a finisher medal. As an extra way to celebrate the 5th annual 5k, organizers are making the merchandise “even more special,” adding, you “don’t want to miss it”.

Moving Forward aims to raise $20,000 to fund its scholarship program and backpack giveaway.

The organization’s mission is to provide young people from Richmond the resources and tools needed to feel confident and prepared in the classroom. The organization plans to appoint a committee of local residents and business owners to select the scholarship recipients and will work with elementary schools throughout Richmond to identify which students will benefit most from a backpack giveaway.
