Police seek witnesses to homicide at 25th and Macdonald

A 60-year-old man was fatally shot in one of the busiest commercial areas of Richmond Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Officers responded to the area of 25th Street and Macdonald Avenue following a ShotSpotter gunshot detection alert at 12:47 p.m., police said.

Officers located Danny Ray Mitchell, of Richmond, suffering from gunshot wounds inside his vehicle.

Mitchell was transported to a local trauma center, where he died from his injuries, police said.

The killing marked the city’s 20th homicide of 2020.

Police detectives spoke with witnesses but are encouraging any other witnesses they haven’t spoken with yet to contact them.
