Richmond police officers responding to an in-progress burglary call early Tuesday encountered about a dozen raccoons engaged in a physical altercation, police said.
At about 12:20 a.m, officers went to the City Corporation Yard at 6 13th St. after a city employee working after hours in the administration office called to report hearing banging on the door like someone was trying to break in, police said.
“Officers coordinated their response and set up a perimeter,” with two officers “covertly” walking in on foot.
“Officers shined their flashlights in the area where they heard the noises…to find all the raccoons making the raucous,” Richmond police Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said.
Police said the raccoons fled the encounter. The suspects’ descriptions and direction of flight were broadcast for “officer safety information,” police added.
