The victim of a fatal shooting in Richmond Thursday afternoon has been identified by police as 25-year-old T’Shawn Richard, a Richmond resident.
Just before 3 p.m., police responded to a call about a fight in the 700 block of Barrett Avenue and, while en route, received notification of a Shotspotter gunshot activation in the area registering 24 rounds, police said.
Officers arrived on the scene and found Richard lying near a home suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Despite attempts by first responders to revive Richard, he died at the scene, police said.
Richmond police detectives are investigating the fight that preceded the shooting to determine who was involved, as well as possible witnesses to the shooting. As of Thursday night, detectives were still following up on leads and no arrests had been announced.
“Our detectives know there was a large group of people present when the shooting happened,” police said “It is imperative that our community members come forward and provide us with information that they know and/or may have seen. The Richmond Police Department needs the community’s assistance to solve this senseless act.”
The homicide marked the 18th this year in Richmond.
